SWEET EATS – MY GUIDE TO THE BEST FOOD IN T.O.
Volume 4
We’d actually heard some not so good feedback about Susur Lee’s newest restaurant run by his sons Kai and Levi, but decided to try it out anyways. We live close by and liked the look of the menu!
It was a special occasion (Jess’ Birthday) and my parents joined us so we decided to go all out with the chef’s menu. This is a fun way to eat if you have a group (we had four). We often dine as a pair and miss out on trying out all of the things we want on the menu, but this way we got to share lots of dishes and some things we may have not ordered had the chef not selected the dish for us to try. We had TEN, yes TEN dishes in total and in order here they are:
Lobster Taco
Oyster in Cold “Miso Soup”
Kale Tofu Salad
Rare Filet of Beef
Spicy Tuna and Watermelon Ceviche
Duck Confit Spring Roll
Shredded Beef Ravioli
Curry Marinated Rack of Lamb
Chocolate and Hazelnut Mousse
Special Rice Cake Dessert
The meal did get a bit heavy near the end and if we were to re-order I probably would’ve skipped the duck confit spring rolls (the goat cheese overpowered the duck and was just a weird combo) and the Rare Filet of Beef (the cut of meat was uneven and the dish was a bit uninspired)… but everything else was delicious.
Jess’ favourite dishes were the Lobster Tacos and Spicy Tuna and Watermelon Ceviche. My favourite dishes were Lobster Tacos and Shredded Beef Ravioli. We also liked the Rice Cake dessert but we think that it was just a special for the night as it is not listed on the current menu online.
Why we go here: Much improved since opening, Chef’s Menu, Lobster Tacos (the shells are made of Taro Root), Location and we liked the style of the restaurant.
Things to know: The staff were not the most attentive, took quite some time to get our drink orders in and another patron had a glass of wine spilled on them… but it was a packed house and it was kind of nice to not be rushed out of the door like a lot of the busy restaurants in Toronto these days. Don’t read all of the early reviews, go and make your own!
